| Summary, etc. | Women-headed households make up over 70% of the world's homeless. Homelessness is not however unique to societies with third world economies. It is increasingly a phenomenon experienced by women in societies with advanced capitalist economies such as Australia. <br/>Single women are often described as the 'hidden homeless'; their needs often overlooked within a context of overwhelming unmet need.<br/>The purpose of this discussion paper is to provide an overview of the key issues in relation to homelessness in Melbourne as it affects single women without dependent children. <br/>This discussion paper draws upon interviews with women who have experienced homelessness and current literature relating to housing and homelessness. <br/> |
