Summary: This Guide is for people living in boarding houses in NSW. It is also for community workers assisting people who live in boarding houses. Before 2012, there was no law in NSW that set out the rights and responsibilities of boarders and lodgers. The Boarding Houses Act 2012 introduced regulations and protections for residents of boarding houses, but it doesn’t apply to everyone. This Guide covers: * What places are and aren’t covered by the Boarding Houses Act * The rights and responsibilities of people who live in and operate boarding houses * Common issues in boarding houses and how the law might resolve them * Sample letters and resources, and * Contacts for organisations where you might be able to get more assistance.
