It is increasingly a phenomenon experienced by women in societies with advanced capitalist economies such as Australia. Single women are often described as the 'hidden homeless'; their needs often overlooked within a context of overwhelming unmet need. The purpose of this discussion paper is to provide an overview of the key issues in relation to homelessness in Melbourne as it affects single women without dependent children. This discussion paper draws upon interviews with women who have experienced homelessness and current literature relating to housing and homelessness. | ||
