520 _aThis poll is the twenty-fifth in an ongoing series of polls being undertaken by the Social Research Centre for the ANU. Their purpose is to assess Australians' opinions on important and topical issues, with an emphasis on international comparisons. These polls are typically conducted three times a year, or about every four months. Some questions appear in every poll in order to provide information about changes in opinion over time; the majority of questions appear in one poll only. This research is used to inform public debate and policy about issues affecting Australia. This is the first in the series to be conducted using Life in Australia, the Social Research Centre's probability-based online panel. (The previous polls in the ANU Poll series have been conducted via Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing or CATI). The methodology adopted for the ANU Poll was a mixed mode approach, including both online and telephone surveys conducted via the Social Research Centre's Life in Australia panel. All Life in Australia panel members (n=3,234) were invited to take part in the survey and 2,513 of them participated. The main focus of this poll was housing, covering issues such as general views on life in Australia, type of dwelling, home ownership, rent and mortgage, housing affordability, and investment properties. Demographic and background variables include gender, age, country of birth, citizenship, language spoken at home, indigenous origins, household structure, highest level of education, and employment status.
