520 _aThe Joint Guarantee of Service for People with Mental Health Problems and Disorders Living in Aboriginal, Community and Public Housing (JGOS) was developed in recognition that people with mental health problems frequently experience difficulties accessing housing, disruption to tenancies and reduced capacity to maintain housing. For these reasons, mental illness has been identified as one of the typical pathways into homelessness. Existing in one form or another since 1997, the JGOS aims to coordinate the delivery of services to people with mental health problems and disorders who have ongoing support needs living in social housing. This report details the findings of a comprehensive, 18 month investigation into the implementation of the JGOS. The agencies which are the subject of the investigation are Housing NSW (Housing) and the NSW Department of Health (Health), the two original signatories to the JGOS.
