Boarding on the Edge / A report on Boarding House Residents of the Local Government Areas of Marrickville and Leichhardt - NSW Newtown Neighbourhood Centre 1994 - 45 pages

KEYWORDS: Boarders and lodgers, boarding houses, lodging houses

From as early as 1977 major reports have been written again and again by individuals and organisations highlighting the need to address Boarding House living for people with disabilities. These reports raise the reality that as an accommodation option Boarding Houses in NSW have generally failed to support adequately or integrate people into the surrounding community in which they are located. As a result, residents have no option other than be be boarding on the edge of the rest of the community in relation to their accessibility to services and to the community recognition that Boarding House residents are a part of that community. Hence the title of this report came into ebing.
The project arose out of a need in Sydney's Inner West region to locate people with disabilities residing in Boarding Houses and gain a clear picture of what, if any, of the local services they are accessing and hat further services they require with respect to adequately addressing their recreational and social needs.
